Alternative. Ukraine: reality and future in Brussels

On the 17th of February, Ukrainian Ambassador Ihor Dolhov and Mark Andries, Chief of Cabinet of Minister-President Geert Bourgeois opened the exhibition Alternative.Ukraine – Reality and Future.

The exhibition shows over forty works of fourteen contemporary artists and curated by Lera Litvinova and Leonora Yanko. Although the paintings and sculptures vary in style, they all offer an unique and intimate view of Ukrainian culture and society.

In his opening speech, Mark Andries emphasized that despite the current difficult circumstances we should never forget what Ukraine has on offer, as Ukrainians, after all, are our neighbours. Ambassador Dolhov shared his views on the dramatic events in his country and pointed out the significance of the present situation: ‘Today, Ukrainians are fighting, not only for their future, but also to defend European freedom and democracy’.

The Ambassadors of Poland, Estonia, Canada and Croatia attended the opening.

The exhibition is organized by the Ukrainian Embassy in Brussels, Gallery Manufactura, the Art Center Jacob Grether and the Flanders Department of Foreign Affairs. The art works of Oleg Radvan, Natalie Nasybulina and Lera Litvinova, amongst others, are exhibited till the 6th of March.
